What is the role of aeration in sewage treatment?

Aeration refers to the process of increasing the contact area between water and air by aeration or mechanical agitation. Aeration is an intermediate process of aerobic biological treatment of wastewater.

The function of the aeration tank is to make the activated sludge carry out aerobic respiration and further decompose the organic matter into inorganic matter. To achieve the purpose of removing pollutants, the aeration tank mainly relies on aerobic microorganisms to remove COD in water, and the growth and reproduction of microorganisms need dissolved oxygen.

The role of aeration:

1. The basic function of aeration is to generate and promote oxygen to effectively contact with water, provide oxygen under the condition that biological oxidation constantly consumes oxygen, and maintain a certain dissolved oxygen concentration in water;

2. In addition to oxygen supply, it also generates sufficient stirring and mixing in the aeration tank area to promote the circulation of water, so that the activated sludge and wastewater are fully mixed in contact;

3. Maintaining a certain moving speed of the mixed liquid, so that the activated sludge is always in suspension in the mixed liquid;
