The essence of pond culture is protein transformation, and the design of feed formula is also carried out around protein transformation.  Generally speaking, within a certain range of protein content, the growth rate of fish and shrimp is directly proportional to the protein content.  In studies of feed protein levels, we often see results like the following:  

When the protein content in the diet is lower than the "basal metabolism level", fish and shrimp will have "negative growth", because the protein content in the diet is not enough to maintain the basal metabolism of fish and shrimp.  Absolute growth is zero or negative, so feed protein efficiency is less than or equal to zero.  

The change rate was less than zero, so the feed protein efficiency decreased gradually.

When dietary protein content was equal to the "highest growth rate level", the absolute growth rate of fish and shrimp reached the highest, but the feed protein efficiency decreased greatly.  

When the protein content in the feed is greater than the "highest level of growth rate", the absolute growth rate of fish and shrimp begins to decrease gradually, and the phenomenon of "protein poisoning" appears. No one does this kind of feed!  

Therefore, from the perspective of improving protein efficiency and reducing pond pollution, farmers should appropriately sacrifice the growth rate of fish and shrimp and choose the feed with the "highest protein efficiency", rather than the feed with higher protein content and the fastest growth rate but the highest nitrogen pollution for the maximum growth rate.  "Grow fast, die fast" is a common phenomenon in the industry!  The growth rate is meaningful only if the fish and shrimp are alive.
